5 Desert Marathons Regulations 2019
The 2017 5 Desert Marathons is a race by stages, promoted and organised by Eventos y Deporte, Runedia and Novotiming.
It consists of five stages and runs from the 2 to 9th of November 2019:
1st stage Er Rachidia – Erfoud 52 km
2nd stage Erfoud – Oasis Laawina 35 km
3rd stage Oasis Laawina – Merzouga 25 km
4th stage Tour of the Large Dune 51 km
5th stage Merzouga – Erfoud 48 km
The departure times for each of the stages will be between 9:00 and 10:00. To be able to enter the general classification, you must finish the five stages.
All participants who have formalised their registration before 20th September 2017 will be able to participate.
Registrations may be made over the Internet on the official website for the race and at Runedia.com.
The price of the registration will vary according to the time band and pace of registrations:
Special rate (The first 20 or deadline 10 February 2019): €1,150
First Rate (From 21 to 35 Registered or deadline 26 May 2019): €1,390
Second rate (From 35 registered for ahead or May 26 to September 30): €1,590
Payment will be made in two instalments. The first €600 as a booking fee, and the rest before 20th September.
To be able to get a refund on your registration in the case of cancellation at the runner’s request, the runner must have a voluntary registration cancellation insurance policy, costing an additional €100, to be paid with the first payment.
Should the race be cancelled, all participants will receive a complete refund.
The registration gives the holder the right to:
Return air ticket (from Madrid or Barcelona)
Right to register for the race
Airport transfers and after each stage
Accommodation in hotels (double room)
Full board (does not include drinks other than water, or extras in the rooms)
Timing with personalised photo at the end of each stage
Solid and liquid provisions during the race
Two 1.5-l bottles of water per stage
Accident insurance policy
Medical and nursing service
Commemorative technical T-shirt for the participants
Commemorative polo shirt for participants and companions
There is no maximum time for each stage, although it may be established if the organisation deems fit.
The organisation will control all the runners who depart to ensure that they reach the arrival area. Indications given by the race judges must be respected.
Any breach of the regulations may lead to disqualification.
Participants who decide to withdraw from the race must inform the organisation by means of the provisions posts or control posts set up along the route or by calling the emergency telephone number. Withdrawal from the race will not mean the loss of gifts or services provided by the organisation.
The general classification time will be the sum of the five partial times for each stage.
It is a competitive race and is open to athletes of any nationality. No federated licence is required. Participants must be 18 years old by 20th October 2019, the day before the outward journey.
There will be various classifications, in both the men’s and the women’s categories, depending on participants’ year of birth.
Each runner participates in the 5 Desert Marathons under their own responsibility and must be in a physical condition sufficient to be able to manage the race.
Established categories, for men’s as well as women’s:
Under 23s (aged 18 to 22)
Senior (aged 23 to 40)
Veterans (aged 41 to 50)
Masters (aged over 51)
To be able to participate and to classify, you must run with the number and chip provided by the organisation, which must be clearly visible.
Participants not using their number or chip will not be able to classify. The number and chip allocated are personal and non-transferable.
There will be trophies for the first three people classified in the men’s and women’s general, and for the first person in each category. The general classification prizes are accumulative with respect to those of the categories.
The final classifications will be uploaded to the websites of the race, Runedia and Novotiming.
Every day, the classifications of the corresponding stage and the accumulated total will be posted in the communal area of the corresponding hotel.
The race has a compulsory insurance policy that covers each runner, but the organisation may not be held liable for moral and/or material damages that participants and spectators may cause during the competition. The organisation recommends all participants who have not run in a trial of similar characteristics before or who have not done physical activity for a lengthy period to have a medical check up and/or stress test. The organisation may not be held liable for any medical pathology suffered by any runner during the race and/or soon after it finishes.
The participants will be supplied with liquid and solid provisions with the frequency required for each stage and these will be proportional to the conditions of each stage.
The organisation may disqualify runners who do not complete the full route, who do not wear their number in a visible place, who show non-sporting behaviour, who do not respect the environment or for other reasons considered to be of force majeure.
By registering, you agree to the terms of these regulations. Anything not reflected in them is up to the criteria of the organisation. The regulations may be modified by the organisation for the correct development of the races.
Participants authorise the organisation to use their image, with the photographs that may be taken throughout the event, by means of any device and with no time limit. Those registered expressly give the organisation the right to reproduce their name and surnames, their place in the general classification and in their category, and their time.
The organisation reserves the right to modify these regulations if necessary.
